Our Minister, Rev. Matt Alspaugh

Reverend Matt Alspaugh came to Lake Chapala UU Fellowship in August 2017, as part of a cooperative arrangement with First UU Church of Houston. Prior to coming to Lakeside, he served as the minister of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown, Ohio, for eight years. 

Before that, Rev. Alspaugh served as a chaplain resident at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Starr King School, the Unitarian Universalist seminary in Berkeley, California.

In his earlier career, Rev. Alspaugh worked in product and marketing management in a number of high technology startup firms in Colorado, and taught telecommunications at the University of Denver. Prior to that, Rev. Alspaugh worked as a systems engineer at Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey. 

Matt holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from University of Denver.

Liz Hill, Rev. Alspaugh’s partner of 30 years, writes fiction and offers spiritual direction. In his spare time, Matt enjoys hiking, reading, learning to make music, and studying Spanish.
